The story is well scripted with mostly good dialogue which sometimes is lost in the muddle of other noises and occasionally just becomes unhearable.
The music however fits nicely and although doesn't boost the film still makes a fine addition. The mise-en-scene in the film is very nice to look at despite one scene which I'm almost positive was a greenscreen, apart from that everything was beautifully shot amd framed in such a way that not only shows of the actors but the scenery.
Overall, not a great film but an enjoyayble one, it could of done with being 10 minutes shorter as it seemed like some moments were crammed in but for the most part it's an interesting insight into Dali.

I'm a fan of Salvador Dali's art, books, biography and when i heard of a film it only figures i got intrigued, only to find none other than Robert Pattinson taking the shoes of world wide renowned surreal painter Salvador Dali.
I mean i know money is almost everything but Robert Pattinson? I even tried to overlook the fact that the film itself refers to the youth of Dali but did it really have to be Pattinson?.
Ok let's overlook this also, another issue i got is even greater. Dali has an amazing love for another fellow male that is waaaay too exaggerated in the movie I just wished he was more like Nonetheless it's a little piece of history from now on that's worth watching.

Salvador Dali Robert Pattinson puts them all to shame with his entrance in his fancy dress. The only thing Magdalena Marina Gatell can bring to the party is a short haircut but that will do for now.
She also does have an invitation to a fashionable dinner party to which she brings along Federico and Salvador.
Considering the time, place and people involved, "Little Ashes" is a potentially fascinating, yet fatally flawed and uninspiring, movie that even without Robert Pattinson's horrendous performance, still might not have been much good.
Another problem arises from treating the characters as merely historical figures in a wax museum, rather than flesh and blood people. Despite their possible dreams, none had any idea what history would have in store for them.
I remember reading in a biography of Luis Bunuel where he wondered how he would have been remembered if he had died in the Spanish Civil War.
And the movie simply goes on too long when a tighter focus on a single time and place would have been the way to go. In its defense, I should point out the movie does the right thing by not shying away from any homoeroticism.

I'm so sick of it! Federico Garcia Lorca: How can you say that? Your painting's never been better. This isn't you, Salvador. Their private lives become increasingly complex, as Federico ignores the advances of devoted friend and writer Magdalena Marina Gatell , and Salvador himself feels the pull of Federico's magnetism.
Luis, becoming increasingly isolated by the duo's closeness, decides to move to Paris to fulfill his own artistic ambitions.
Luis visits them at university and becomes more suspicious and appalled by their apparent intimacy. Salvador finds Federico's obsession more than he is prepared to handle, and eventually leaves for Paris.
Enveloped by the high society and decadence there, Salvador is soon entangled with Gala Arly Jover , a married woman with a penchant for celebrities.
When Federico visits, he finds his friend is a changed man, both in his life and his politics. He was homosexual , as everyone knows, and madly in love with me.
He tried to screw me twice I was extremely annoyed, because I wasn't homosexual, and I wasn't interested in giving in.

Salvador Dali: Federico, why can't you just be happy for me? The movie focuses on the complexity of their relationships amidst a turbulent political context in Europe and particularly in Spain, a changing cultural and intellectual life dominated by the avant-garde, surrealism, the influences of jazz and the decadent lifestyle of artists in Europe.
The editing of the movie could have used a little more smoothness. Some of the scenes and frames seemed superfluous.
Some of the lines in the dialogue, wanting to be informative, ended up sounding a bit out of context and unrealistic. The actors' performances were very good, except for a few instances where their performance seemed inadequate mainly because of what I take to be the main problem in the movie, namely that of language.
Two of the main actors are Spanish, speaking English - the main language of the movie - with a very heavy Spanish accent and the other two are British actors speaking English with a fake heavy Spanish accent which made a few words incomprehensible!!!
This was a major turnoff for me. Either you get a cast that speak English with a homogeneous native accent, or you get a Spanish-speaking cast, and a good Spanish script co-writer and exert some extra effort to make the movie entirely in Spanish.
