The Bouncer / Lukas (2018) - Trailer (English Subs)I am utter surpised at how good this movie is and that it didn't get to be in theatres. I have all of his movies so far that have come out and see all but 4.
But I am willing to admit when he makes a bad one. For example, stay away from Derailed and Cyborg, they are awful. I still watch them cause I love watching bad movies but they are borderline unwatchable.
JCVD puts on one of his best performances ever! The movie is mostly in French with some english dialogue. The Action scenes are really good, but they aren't the main focus of the film, which is why I was surpised at how good it is.
One night he gets in an altercation with a pateron and the accidentally injures the guy. I would argue that he didn't really do anything, but I am not his boss at the night club :D.
So he gets fired. His friend sets him up with a job interview at a Strip Club owned by some gangsters. He gets the job after a really brutal fight scene and then is arrested shortly after getting the new job becaues of the previous altercation, and told if he wroks with the police to spy on the gangsters they will drop all charges.
So begins the films main plot. JCVD really shines in this role and you really feel for his situtation.
As you learn more about Lukas' past and what he is facing, you feel truely for the character. This film is x times better then Taken 2 and Taken 3 and a lot of other garbage that ends up in Theaters.
Not to say this film is a copy of Taken but more of a similiar type of film to movies like Taken, John Wick, and other films in the same gernre.

The ending of the film is slightly ambigous and despite the fact I hate ambigous endings in general, this one hints a bit towards a conclusion but the ending is very fitting for the movie.
If you are JCVD fan, this is a must scene without question. If you are not, but want to watch a good film that really shows off the actors acting ability I would highly recommend seeing this film and the movie called JCVD!
Both are great examples of what JCVD can do. Hollywood the man has paid the price for whatever he has done in the past, and it is time to welcome him back.
He still has a lot of miles in him and deserves to have another theatrical film or more! Just finished up The Bouncer.
Loved it. If JCVD had not been made, this would probably be his best work since his peak days in the 90s. Felt like the lovechild of The Wrestler and Drive.
Good acting and really well made. I thought the music was great too. Really set the tone nicely. I would easily put this in his top 10 movies.
Very gritty and somber. The old karate master makes violence look like it should. Van Damme is old and tired, but it works to make the viewer concerned for his safety.
He gets hurt, he takes risks we can relate too. His goals are admirable and relatable. This is the best Van Damme I've seen in years!
Very impressed with this more seasoned older JCVD that isn't all action and blood. This movie isn't anything like those older ones. While there is some fight scenes, they are dwarfed by the plot and acting in the movie.
I really enjoyed this. I love Van Damme, going back to seeing him in action flicks when I was growing up. His tv show was amazing, and was really glad to see him back in action.
This is a really interesting flick, that mixes legit action not cheesy explosions, etc with a more emotional element than would be expected.
Glad I bought it instead of renting it. This is supposed to play in English but it doesn't. I enjoyed it.
Has a very dark tone about itself, Subtitles are no big deal, and there is English in the movie as well. Kinda wish it had more character development with Van Damme, it felt like the story could have worked off his past as given in the movie, like he was a double undercover agent but it did not elude to that.

Ich kann ihn sehr empfehlen. He already demonstrated this in the 90s extensively. Unfortunately it went from bad to worse.
What a crap movie this was. Unworthy of Jean-Claude Van Damme. Verily, he even shows here some acting talent.
Not that he has to grasp deeply in his box of tricks. All he has to do is stare gloomy and tired. Well, someone who hates Van Damme would say that.
I thought it was magisterial what he demonstrated here. He plays an old man who knows the ropes.
Someone who carelessly licks his wounds and puts a firm bandage over his wounds and then moves on to the order of the day. In short, a tough guy.
And yet this bad-boy has a golden heart. The way this single father takes care of his 8-year-old daughter Sarah Alice Verset is endearing.
Lukas experienced some major setbacks in his life. Grayish back streets, dark clubs, and brutal crime. I myself am not so familiar with the region where this all takes place.
Because of the mix of languages Dutch, French, and English , the film also got a more international character. I myself am not such a big fan of home-grown films.
But cinematographically this was of a completely different level.
