Buy the bluray especially at this ridiculous price and find a whole new appreciation of something that you thought you already knew every inch of.
This is my favourite Jane Austen adaption by far. Everything about it is absolutely wonderful. Most wonderful of all is Mr Darcy played by the one and only Colin Firth who has been the nation's favourite heartthrob ever since.
So memorable is his performance that the rest of the cast is sometimes almost forgotten. And that is a pity, because all the actresses and actors involved are quite perfect.
The format of the mini-series suits the story well, it allows for a full adaption of the source novel without gross omissions.
The locations, period sets and costumes are glorious. The script is excellent. It's a joy to watch this. If you haven't already seen it, buy it at once, make yourself comfortable on the sofa and watch it.
All five and a half hours of it. And then the bonus material. The restored version of this TV production from I bought is beautiful, both picture and sound are excellent.
There are subtitles for the hard of hearing as well as an audio description and audio navigation for visually impaired audiences. This note refers to the blu-ray issue.
As other reviewers have said, the re-mastering has produced an excellent picture. I noticed that the image from the original negative was slightly larger than the print used for the dvd release, almost as if the camera had zoomed in slightly.
This same effect appeared during each episode, with the result that in nearly all the shots the actors lost the tops of their heads.
I recommend that every viewer checks this out. I found that I could adjust the picture to lessen the effect described above.
I had only ever done this to adjust material shot in , and just assumed that my disc player would automatically default to the correct size.
Of course, this may not apply to all tv's - mine is a seven year old Samsung 40 inch- but if you do encounter the same problem, the first thing to check is picture size.
This 25th anniversary edition only seems to refer to a new cover. It is still the same old blu-ray as before with the same features.
Still i with acceptable and atmospheric film grain but at the same time whites are terribly produced. At times the visual noise is so bad it looks like 70s Dr Who special effects.
Clearly better than the DVD, but I had hoped by now that the film would have been truly restored. We can only hope that the BBC becomes commercially accountable and properly restores this excellent adaptation for a 4K release.

After so many years of seeing adaptations of Pride and Prejudice on stage, screen and television, I had long given up hope of an entertaining and faithful adaptation.
Then a miracle! Class, style, humor and intelligence is alive and well! Imagine watching a six-hour program over and over and over. It has to be done.
Jennifer Ehle gives Elisabeth all the archness, tenderness, and homey wit that Austen could desire. Each individual cast member gives a memorable performance that makes the character real.
Simon Langton, as director, has a real ear for dialogue and silence. Indeed, it is often the silences in conversation that are the most hilarious.
The most serious fault in most previous productions was the casting of Darcy. A stiff actor in a stiff part gives you only a stiff character even, God bless him, Olivier.
If Darcy fails, the entire production is a waste. The inspired casting of Colin Firth in this production was defining. Putting Firth, a naturally lively chap, in the role was like harnessing energy.
You can often feel that intensity of containment, which is just perfect for Darcy. This is a must-see for any loyal Austen reader or anyone else who likes romance, wit and social commentary all rolled into one.

You can fast forward through them, but you cannot skip them. I have three girls that love Pride and Prejudice and we, as parents, appreciate that it is pretty clean of adult content.
The previews, however, do not follow that standard. In this version, if we want to safeguard their eyes for a little while longer, we have to stand there for a few minutes and fast forward through each of the five previews.
I wasn't sure I needed to get this since I already had 3 different forms of it but the reviews said it was worth it and they were RIGHT!
The color is amazing. I found myself staring at the costumes in every scene saying things like "I had no idea that dress was yellow!
I did not know these were the colors before because every copy I own is so washed out and dull that even if you can tell what color they are The details leap off the screen now and you can see how interesting and detailed the sets are in addition to costuming!!
Even if you own a previous version, you need this one!!! I cannot comment on the extras because I haven't seen them yet but I will edit my review when I have.
That one was great and I love this series film! This Keepsake Edition is pretty much the same as the above version except it has four more featurettes, which are cool and different packaging.
The picture quality isn't improved over the previous version, it's the same quality. The one downer is the previous version defaults to the menu right away, while with the Keepsake version one has to watch a bunch of theatrical movie trailers before they can even get to the menu.
